Today, I received my complimentary copy of Ghost Recon 2 PS2. It’s always a rush to get a version of a game you created. It’s strange, especially since I had the chance to play with the Gold Master until I was sick of the game, and I even bought a pirated copy of the same game down the street from the Studio two months ago.
It’s not so much that I’m proud of the result, but I am glad to have acted as associate producer on this title. I can see my fingerprints all over the game, from some game design ideas such as the ‘Scouting’ command, to the storyline, on which I worked extensively. I think it must be how a writer feels when he picks up the first printed copy of his book.
In other words, it’s not the feeling of holding a game and thinking, This is exactly the game I wanted to make. I guess this might come in time, although one must learn to walk before one can run.
Rather, it’s the feeling of holding something in your hands, and thinking, This is something I made and that I have shared with the world.
Quite addictive, really.
